It Was Only a Matter of Time

For those of you who know my son, this will be no surprise. When I got home from work tonight, Tiff and Little D were upstairs in our room watching Sid the Science Kid and playing cars. As I was changing out of my work clothes, D was trying to get off the bed. This was no big deal as he does it all the time. I had my back to him when I heard a loud THUD! He started crying, which with him you know is bad. I jumped down to pick him up and saw it immediately. I grabbed him in my arms and turned him away from Tiff as she was approaching. I told her, "you do not want to see this" as I knew when she saw it she would be upset. She tried to see again and I told her again that she does not want to see it. Finally I let her see it and she got a bit more worried. I tried to play it cool so that she would not know how worried I was.

We came downstairs (D made sure we grabbed his cars) to put some ice on it. As my mom is a nurse, I tried to call her for advice. She wasn't home but my dad said she would be home shortly. Tiff grabbed the number for the Pediatric ER Hotline (I am glad she knew where it was cause I had no idea) and called. They said they would have a nurse call us right back. In the meantime, we tried to put ice on it but he just wanted to eat the ice. So we put him in his chair and gave him ice to eat (the kid loves ice). I tried to put ice, a cold pack and a washcloth on it but he was not having any of it. The ER nurse called about 5-10 later and asked Tiff a lot of questions.

Anywho, looks like he is going to be fine and he acted pretty normal for the rest of the evening. We are to wake him up and check on him after he has been asleep for two hours and then two hours after that. I always knew it was only a matter of time before something like this happened but it was still pretty upsetting. Seeing a huge goose egg on your childs melon is not fun. Of course I had to grab my camera because I would never be able to describe how nasty and big this lump was. It had gone down a bit by bedtime and wasn't as colorful.

So, how was your evening? Here are a few photos of the horn growing out of my sons head.
