I'm Sid the Science Kid

Hope you all had a great Halloween. This afternoon, after Destry took a four hour nap, we carved pumpkins. Destry colored while Tiff and I carved our masterpieces. Check out our work.

After we finished, we started getting ready to go trick-or-treating. Destry dressed up as his favorite TV show character, Sid the Science Kid. We then headed to downtown Duvall to trick-or-treat at all the local businesses. Destry loved to grab a piece of candy and put it in his bag. He would say "bye-bye" to everyone each time we left. He had a great time and chowed on an apple fritter Tressa gave him at her bakery. When we finished we headed over to Michelle's house to visit. He snagged Michelle's stash of candy and for the first time counted. He was counting soda cans and counted "two, three, four, five". Missed a number but exciting none the less. He has never done that before so we were quite shocked. We then came home for a bath to wash out his hair color, ate dinner and headed to bed. Here are a few photos of our night. You can see more in the photo gallery.

Just in Time for Halloween

Destry got his vampire fangs just in time for Halloween. His top two canines came in on Monday. One more to go and we'll have all but the four back molars. Hopefully those go better than this last round. After two weeks of not sleeping, he has finally started back to his old routine again.

18 Months and Lucky Number 13.

It seems like Little D has had 12 teeth forever. After several weeks of cutting, tooth number 13 finally broke through today. It's his left bottom canine. From the looks of things, the other 3 should make an appearance soon. Also, he had his 18 month checkup today. He is 32 1/2 inches tall and a tad under 24 pounds. The Doctor said everything looked great and that he is developing perfectly. He got four shots and only cried for a minute then was back to his old self. Tomorrow our little boy turns 18 months old. Man has time flown by. Before we know it he will be embarrased by us and asking to borrow the car.

Sorry Grandma Lee and Grandma Johnson

It has been quite some time since I have updated the blog and the photo albums (as the Grandmas have let me know...several times). But hey, I have an 18 month old, that's a good excuse, right? Anyway, I have finally updated the albums. I added a few new photos to September's and started the October. Sorry this took so long. Enjoy!

Labor Day Weekend

Despite the rain, we had a great labor day weekend. We headed out to the cabin Saturday afternoon to spend the day with family. Everyone had a great time hanging out. Tiff's cousin Michelle was there and Destry got to play with her daughter Sadie who is a few months older. They had lots of fun and even shared toys. The weather cleared up long enough for us to feed the ducks. On Sunday, some of Tiff's college friends came out with their families. Destry had fun playing with Samanta, Nate and Nolan. Destry, Samantha and Nate are all within a few months of each other. The rest of the weekend we just relaxed as the weather was pretty crappy and we really couldn't do anything outside. Destry did expand his vocabulary this past week. He now says football (I am pretty amped about that one), boat, apple, Buzz, blue and many others that are escaping me right now. His animal noises now include quack, woof, meow, eee eee (monkey), baa, roar, sssss, bzzzz and moo. He is a regular Dr. Doolittle. He can also now walk down the stairs which scares the crap out of me. It was really great to be able to spend the weekend with so many great friends and family.

Finally

I finally updated the photo album for August. I have been slacking lately, sorry. Little Destry has become quite the chatterbox lately and has really started saying words. He seems to pick up a new word or two everyday. He of course says mama and dada (which actually can mean either me or ball, not sure why). He also says night-night, Elmo, baby, puppy, bubble, grandpa and many others. This weekend at the cabin, he started saying ducky when we were feeding the ducks. He can also tell you that a dog says woof-woof. His new thing now is to honk noses, he thinks it's a riot. He loves going to the cabin and Broho where he can run around, swing and slide. He could swing for hours if we let him. Speaking of running, he never walks, he always runs. He is like Forest Gump, if he is going somewhere, he is running! The last week or so he has really enjoyed reading books. He will bring you a book and shoves it in your face until you read it to him. Before you finish the book (and he knows when it is getting to the end) he is already reaching for another. Sometimes he just wants you to read the same book over and over (and over and over).

Is it Possible to Pre-register for the ER?

Because I am sure we are going to be there soon. At 16 months most kids are just getting used to walking, maybe starting to run. Our kid, he likes to jump off things. We have always been there to catch him when he jumps off something high. Last week he did it without us there to catch him. And now his new favorite thing to do is jumping off the couch. He thinks it is the funniest thing ever! He climbs up on the couch and walks right up to the edge and gets a huge grin on his face. Then he steps out and jumps. He eats it right into the ground every time. Does he cry? Nope, he gets up laughing and jumps up to the couch to do it again. When you see a post titled "Broken Leg" or "How I Spent Four Hours Last Night", you will know it is the next chapter to this post. We don't have any pictures yet, I just don't my answer to the question "where were you when he jumped and hurt himself" to be "taking a picture of it".

Happy Birthday Aunt Michelle!

For Aunt Michelle's Birthday, we went out to dinner at Pickle Time in Duvall and then went to a park near her house to play for a while.

Little Destry had tons of fun making new friends, sliding down slides, swinging, and hanging out with Aunt Michelle. There was a little girl that had fun playing with Destry and it was funny because she kept calling him names like Destiny, Desery, Estery, and finally Ezera.

When we went to leave he blew Michelle a kiss (his first time doing it by himself) and it shocked Big D. It was priceless. Sorry I don't have any pictures.

Haircut

We took Destry to get his first "real" haircut this afternoon. We were a little worried as he isn't the greatest at holding still. When we got there, we chose the airplane chair and placed him in. So far so good. We buckled him in and the stylist brought him a box of toys to play with. He actually did really good, I think to both our suprise. As she cut his hair he played with the toys and grabbed the steering wheel a few times to take the plane for a "flight". For the most part he held really still and she was very patient when he didn't. He looks so handsome now with his new GQ haircut. Check out our little star.

Buckle up, its going to be a bumpy ride.

Check me out ma, I'm getting my hair cut.

Scientist in the House!

Today we got up and at 'em early and headed down to the Seattle Center to meet Sid the Science Kid at the EMP/SFM. Little D loves Sid. Whenever it comes on, he gets so excited and starts dancing. It's really the only thing he pays attention to on TV besides Wipeout. When he got to meet Sid, he was very excited and even got a high-five from him.

Waiting to meet Sid.

The Happiest Place on Earth

I know I am several months late with this, but better late than never, right? I have finally posted some pictures from our DisneyWorld vacation back in March. As a reminder, Tiff, Destry and I met my parents, brother and niece for a wonderful vacation in Florida. While there, we visited family in Lakeland, spent a day at SeaWorld and seven days at DisneyWorld. We hit all the parks; Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Epcot and Animal Kingdom. Here are a few photos from our trip. For more, visit the SeaWorld and DisneyWorld albums in the gallery.

Out of Gas?

We are driving home from the cabin yesterday, about 10 miles from home, when all of a sudden Destry pulls over to the side of the road I ask whats going on and he says "I ran out of gas". WHAT? How are we out of gas...didn't the light go on? Yeah it did, but he didn't notice it. Luckily we are a 1/3 of a mile from a gas station.
At first I was a bit ticked off, but I soon got over it and found it very funny. For such a bad thing to happen we had luck on our side. We didn't have Little Destry, we were super close to a gas station, and it was a nice day.

I think Destry was a bit embarrasses so I decided to embarrass him more by pulling out the camera to capture the moment! Here are some shots from our adventure.

Playdates with Samantha

Over the past 3 weeks Destry and I have met up with my friend Lori and her daughter Samantha a few times for playdates.

First, we went to Gymboree. Destry LOVED it. It was a 45 minute class of running, climbing, singing, and playing. After the 45 minute class there was free play for 2 hours. I thought we would stick around for maybe 30 minutes then go home...but Destry was having so much fun we stayed for almost the full 2 hours. He fell asleep on the way home and didn't wake up for almost 3 1/2 hours!

Next we went to Kid Quest in Factoria Mall. Basically it's a place for kids to play away from your own house! They have a room for kids under 3 with books, cars, blocks, musical toys and ton's of other stuff. It was a nice change from our living room and all his familiar toys. They also have an area with water and Destry and Samantha had a great time splashing around and getting all wet. Next time I will be sure to put a smock on him or have another change of clothes...he was wet from head to toe!
